2D Panoramic Imaging: focus on quality

Even though 3D X-rays are increasingly becoming established in a growing number of dental practices, in many cases 2D imaging still has a rightful place, to a great extent due to radiation hygiene. It is a core component of modern dental diagnostics. In terms of improvements in image quality, the options available in 2D technology are far from exhausted.

The Orthophos XG 3D ready combines a premium "Made in Germany" tubehead (0.5 mm focal spot) with a CsI sensor (0.027 mm pixel size) to generate the sharpness and clarity needed for your clinical tasks. The innovative ASTRA software algorithm significantly improves the quality of 2D panoramic and Ceph images by minimizing black margins around metal fillings and getting rid of exzessive contrast that could lead to i.e. missdiagnosis of caries.

    • Adolescent, full dentition with orthodontic braces
    • Agenesis of teeth 18 and 28 with the presence of odontoblasts in 38 and 48
    • The incomplete root growth in 37 and 47 as well as the root development of the two wisdom teeth are evidence of the patient's young age
    • Maxillary sinuses and surrounding anatomical structures not radiographically apparent

    • Prosthetic and prophylactic treatment of dentition
    • Hypodense clearly limited changes to the hard tooth substance in teeth 12, 11 and 22 (presumably non-x-ray-opaque composite fillings here)
    • Hyperdense filling material in the roots of teeth 11, 36 and 35 without an indication for periapical lucency
    • Status post apicoectomy on tooth 36 with retrograde obturation of the mesial and distal roots. Good osseous union of the apical bone tissue, no indication of recurrent periapical osteolyses
  • Given indications

    • Dentition badly damaged by periodontitis, with generalized horizontal bone resorption and vertical cavities with teeth 17 – 14 requiring extraction
    • Hypodense, homogenous and clearly delimited changes to the hard tooth substance on 12 mesial, 11 distal and 23 mesial with suspected caries or a differential diagnosis of non-x-ray-opaque composite fillings
    • Differential diagnosis: Caries or non-x-ray opaque composite fillings
    • PFM bridge at teeth 36 – 34 due to furcation on tooth 36 and calculus deposits mesially.
    • Splinting of teeth 32-42 from past periodontal history
    • Hyperdense filling material in tooth 45 without an indication for periapical lucency.
    • Implant-based treatment in the region of teeth 46 and 47 with radiographically inconspicuous PFM hybrid bridge 45 – 47
  • Given indications

    • Prophylactically treated full dentition
    • Wisdom teeth are not present
    • Large maxillary sinuses are visually inconspicuous
    • The adjacent anatomical structures are also radiographically inconspicuous

Cephalometric imaging

Orthophos XG 3D offers the capability to install a cephalometric arm at any time. And to be sure it fits in your x-ray room, the arm can be mounted either on the right side or left side of the unit. 

Ceph programs that cover all orthodontic needs

Using a dedicated sensor, you get lateral and symmetrical p.a. or a.p. as well as carpus images. In cases of displaced teeth, you can also fall back on the benefits of 3D x-rays to determine their exact location.

What are the system requirements?

The requirements actually follow those for the image processing software, Sidexis 4. Details on

I already have Sidexis XG. Do I have to switch to Sidexis 4 in order to use an Orthophos XG 3D ready ?

No, you do not have to switch. Orthophos XG 3D ready works with both Sidexis XG and Sidexis 4. But for a better user experience, we recommend to install Sidexis 4, data migration from Sidexis XG to Sidexis 4 being very easy.

How can I add 3D or a Cephalometric arm to my Orthophos XG 3D ready ?

You will have to contact your Dentsply Sirona Imaging representative. To proceed, the serial nummer of your unit will requested. Thus, a visit at your practice of our local technician will be scheduled.
