Zirconia, simply faster.

Full-contour zirconia restorations in a single visit – only with CEREC

Surprise your patients with faster, more comfortable treatment. Now you can combine the advantages of zirconia with the proven CEREC workflow. You satisfy the most stringent quality standards while your patients get the best possible treatment.

The strengths of full-contour zirconia

Full-contour zirconia has become a very popular material in the dental practice because of its high flexural strength, biocompatibility, and substance-conserving preparation. It is suitable for individual crowns as well as small bridges and can be processed in thin wall thicknesses.

Strength

You and your patients are guaranteed durable full-contour zirconia restorations.

Perfect fit

25% larger pre-sintered size results in highly precise margins and occlusal surfaces.

Simple workflow

Minimally invasive preparation and conventional cementing.

CEREC meets patients’ needs*

In a recent survey, 85 percent of patients said they prefer single-visit dentistry to traditional treatment. The benefits of single-visit dentistry are obvious: Patients don’t need impression material or temporaries and are given less anesthetic.

How is a solid zirconia crown made in a single visit?

30 years of CAD/CAM experience now make it possible to create solid zirconia restorations in the practice. The pre-shaded CEREC Zirconia material (colors A1–D3 of the VITA Classical A1–D4® shade guide), dry milling with the CEREC grinding and milling unit, and the extremely short sintering cycles of the new CEREC SpeedFire – everything is designed for time savings and simplicity. But what makes it special is the combination of different innovations. This is what makes the CEREC Zirconia workflow and production of full-contour zirconia restorations in a single visit possible.
  1. Spare your patients the discomfort of a conventional impression tray. Use the CEREC Omnicam, a small powder-free color camera, for precise 3D images in natural color.

  2. After analyzing the complete scan, the CEREC software generates outstanding restoration proposals. This takes you to the production stage faster. You benefit from the simple and visually appealing user interface.

  3. The CEREC grinding and milling unit and CEREC software are optimally synchronized with one another. Milling the full-contour zirconia restoration design is extremely precise, giving the restorations smooth surfaces and edges and very fine fissures.

  4. Full-contour zirconia restorations are sintered and glazed chairside in the compact CEREC SpeedFire. The induction technology allows unparalleled short sintering and firing times.

CEREC Zirconia highlights

  • Everything under control

With CEREC, you are 100% in control of creating restorations and ensuring their quality  – now also in full-contour zirconia restorations. The CEREC Zirconia workflow allows you to step in before the restoration is glazed or inserted. That saves time, it might save the patient another appointment, and prevents arduous grinding and costly intraoral polishing.

  • Tooth-preserving preparation

The high strength of CEREC Zirconia offers benefits for the dentist and patient. Restorative treatment is even possible in confined spaces, and when replacing metal restorations, hardly any of the the old preparations have to be removed. Preparations preserve tooth substance and can be cemented conventionally when fitted.

  • Safety through strength and accuracy of fit

CEREC Zirconia is milled oversized and then densely sintered in the CEREC SpeedFire to its final size. This results in precise edges and a detailed occlusion. A subsequent glaze firing brings the restoration to a high gloss. CEREC Zirconia stands for high flexural strength – thus thin wall thicknesses can be processed. Chipping is eliminated and of course bridges can also be made.

CEREC SpeedFire is the only dental furnace on the market that combines the sintering and glazing processes in one device.

Sintering and glazing with the CEREC SpeedFire

CEREC SpeedFire is the smallest and fastest sintering furnace on the market and can sinter a typical crown in 10–15 minutes. The strengths of full-contour zirconia can thus also be used for chairside treatment. If required, a glaze can be applied with the CEREC SpeedGlaze that can be fired in just a few minutes in the CEREC SpeedFire.

CEREC SpeedGlaze

Spray the sintered restoration evenly with the CEREC SpeedGlaze. A subsequent glaze firing brings the restoration to a high gloss.

  • Orders sent automatically

The CEREC software sends the order with all the necessary information to the furnace.

  • Induction technology

allows unparalleled short sintering and firing times.

  • Just 10–15 minutes

is typically required to sinter a full-contour zirconia crown (depending on the size and volume of the crown).

Treatment often used to take a long time. With CEREC, I was given a complete crown in just one visit.

Frequently asked questions about zirconia with CEREC

I greatly value zirconia – why should I use it with CEREC?

CEREC Zirconia has all the known advantages of the material and a few more as well.

  • Saves time: Thanks to the new CEREC SpeedFire sintering furnace, the sintering process is shortened considerably; long drying times are not necessary thanks to pre-shading.
  • Patient advantages: Solid zirconia satisfies many of the needs expressed by patients. The restoration is complete in just one visit; that means just one trip to the dentist, one anesthetic, and no temporary restoration.
  • Familiar processes: Substance-preserving preparation, bonding with cement – all this is done exactly the same as in a lab-supported workflow.
  • CEREC Zirconia expands the indications for single-visit dentistry – it can also be used for three-unit bridges usually made of zirconia. A welcome side effect: The cost effectiveness of CEREC increases.
  • Complete control: The treatment procedure and added value remain completely in your practice.
  • Solid zirconia gives non-precious metals in particular a run for their money – now there is a tooth-colored material for the same price.

In an article in ZMK 5/2014, Dr. Peter Pospiech described the chairside or in-office solution as an alternative worth considering for smaller restorations.

Processing solid zirconia in the lab takes several hours because of sintering and customization. What is the chairside process like?

For CEREC Zirconia, pre-shaded, pre-sintered blocks are used. The advantage of this method is that no white spots appear where the liquid did not penetrate deep enough into the material during the grinding process. Color deviations are a thing of the past. CEREC Zirconia is dry milled. This greatly reduces processing time. Zirconia can be sintered only in a dry state. The drying process required for wet milling is eliminated. Pre-shading also saves time, as once again no drying period after shading is required.

For CEREC Zirconia, dense sintering is done in the new CEREC SpeedFire furnace. This process is completed in just 12 to 14 minutes – faster than with any other furnace available on the market. Sintering is started and monitored via an easy-to-use touch display.

The restoration can then be polished and lastly customized if desired. The spray glaze (CEREC SpeedGlaze) and any stain that is applied can be glazed in the CEREC SpeedFire furnace within a few minutes – a record that no other machine available on the market can beat. The CEREC SpeedFire thus combines sintering and the finalizing processes (staining and glazing) in a single device.

Can I use CEREC restorations temporarily?

That is theoretically possible but unnecessary because the restoration has an accurate fit and the advantage of single-visit treatment would be lost.

Patients can also receive good treatment without CEREC – so why use it?

A patient comes to your practice and you diagnose a large caries in a lateral tooth. You have several treatment options: a classic composite filling, an inlay that you have made in a lab, or a CEREC inlay. The CEREC inlay is a cost-effective, esthetically pleasing option with good clinical results. You can also take a digital impression of the teeth that is not uncomfortable for patients, you control the entire process, and retain the whole added value in your practice.

Surveys have shown that around 85 percent of patients welcome single-visit dentistry. Two-thirds are willing to change dentists or travel longer distances for this. CEREC can give your practice a unique selling point so it is better utilized.

The CEREC that some dentists had reservations about is a thing of the past. It has come a long way – we invite you to see for yourself.

In addition to a good clinical solution that is profitable for you and pleasant for your patient, other benefits are: Patients are satisfied and recommend you to others. They feel their trust was well placed and come back.
